A closer look
In 1968, Boston's WGBH decided that normal programming was too boring, so they handed their expensive broadcast equipment over to six avant-garde artists. The result was 'The Medium is the Medium,' an incomprehensible fever dream of distorted electron beams, feedback loops, and dancers floating in electronic voids. It was the first time video art infiltrated mainstream television, leaving ordinary viewers completely baffled and successfully turning thousands of living rooms into involuntary modern art galleries.
