A closer look
The Renaissance equivalent of an aggressive Twitter ratio was throwing a bonfire. Paracelsus was a genius but immensely arrogant alchemist who believed the traditional medical teachings of Galen and Avicenna were useless garbage. To prove his point upon securing a university position in Basel, he threw a massive temper tantrum and publicly burned the standard medical textbooks in a brass pan with sulfur. He told the horrified academics that his shoelaces knew more than their ancient masters. He essentially invented modern toxicology, but his absolutely toxic personality meant he was constantly being chased out of towns by angry mobs.
