It isn't a tragic victim of recent erosion; it was just a terribly planned construction project from day one. In 1173, the builders laid a three-meter foundation in soft clay and sand. By the time they hit the second story, the whole thing was already tipping over. It took 200 years to finish because they kept stopping to panic.
