The painter who outlived repeated plagues
Survival in Renaissance Venice was basically a highly lethal lottery, but Titian completely refused to lose. While his contemporaries dropped dead from disease and poor medicine, the legendary painter kept happily churning out masterpieces well into his nineties. He finally succumbed to the plague at the ripe old age of ninety-six, leaving behind a massive fortune.
