Renoir strapped brushes to his wrists when arthritis hit

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Pierre-Auguste Renoir entirely refused to let intense physical agony stop his cheerful impressionism. In his later years, crippling rheumatoid arthritis mangled his hands so badly he physically couldn't hold a paintbrush. Instead of retiring, he just had his assistants tightly bandage the brushes directly to his paralyzed wrists, continuing to paint through sheer stubbornness.
