Why movies use ice cubes that never melt

You simply cannot maintain continuity when your drink goes from frozen solid to lukewarm puddle between takes. Real ice cracks loudly, dilutes the prop liquid, and completely vanishes under harsh studio lamps. Consequently, characters are forced to sip their expensive prop whiskey over heavy, solid blocks of carved acrylic that clink perfectly and last for eternity.
