Planck invented quantum theory to solve a math problem

Max Planck was simply trying to calculate how black bodies radiate heat without the equations spitting out infinite, impossible numbers. He fixed the formulas by aggressively assuming energy only moves in distinct, clunky packets instead of smooth waves. He inadvertently launched quantum physics just to make a thermodynamic spreadsheet balance correctly.
