When a building decides to stop burning down, it is typically because a fragile colored bubble finally burst. Each ceiling nozzle contains a small glass vial filled with a glycerin-based liquid. When exposed to extreme ambient heat, the liquid violently expands, shattering the glass and unblocking a mechanical plug, unleashing a torrential downpour of pressurized water onto the flames.
