A closer look
Before Henry Heimlich became a household name for violently hugging choking people, he tested his theory on anesthetized beagles. He shoved meat down their throats and essentially chest-pressed them back to life. Naturally, the medical community initially called him a hack. Oh, and he didn’t even use it on a human himself until he was 96 years old, saving a woman in his retirement home from a rogue piece of hamburger. Talk about playing the long game.
