A 'jiffy' was formally proposed by physical chemist Gilbert Newton Lewis as the time it takes light to travel exactly one centimeter in a vacuum. Since light is obscenely fast, one jiffy works out to roughly 33.3564 picoseconds. So the next time your boss tells you to fix a problem in a jiffy, you can kindly inform them that their timeline is mathematically impossible.
