A closer look
This ancient Greek edge-lord essentially invented doing it 'for the Gram' thousands of years before the internet existed. In 356 BC, a man named Herostratus wanted eternal fame, but lacked any actual talent or ambition. So, he just set fire to the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. When caught, he proudly confessed his motive. The Ephesians executed him and passed a law forbidding anyone from ever speaking his name to deny him his legacy. Ironically, historians recorded the law, thus giving Herostratus exactly what he wanted.
