A closer look
People pay double at the farmers market believing 'organic' means 'grown in a sterile utopia.' Organic farming still uses pesticides; they are just derived from natural sources instead of synthetic chemicals. Natural doesn't inherently mean safe—cyanide is natural. Furthermore, organic crops are just as likely, if not more so due to manure fertilizers, to carry foodborne pathogens like E. coli. Wash your expensive lettuce.
