A closer look
If your eyes burn and your world blurs by evening, your screen might be stealing more than your attention. Staring at close-up displays for hours makes your eye muscles lock into a near-focus position, contributing to digital eye strain and, in children, potentially worsening myopia progression. You also blink less when concentrating, drying out the surface of your eyes. Blue light itself is not pure evil, but late-night exposure can delay melatonin release and disrupt sleep. Simple habits help more than fancy glasses: follow the 20-20-20 rule every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds; increase font size instead of squinting; and allow real daylight into your day. Your eyes evolved for horizons and sunlight, not only for glowing rectangles in dim rooms.
