Most poltergeists just throw plates and flicker the lights, but the Bell Witch was a massive overachiever who opted for straight-up homicide. In early 19th-century Tennessee, this extremely chatty spirit tormented the Bell family by slapping their children, quoting scripture, and aggressively hating the patriarch, John Bell. The entity didn't just spook him; it physically beat him, cursed at him, and eventually claimed credit for poisoning his medicine, leaving a dark vial of toxic liquid at his deathbed. It remains the only officially recorded case in US history where a ghost gets the credit for a successful hit job.
