Kite string tension limits maximum flight altitude

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

You can't just let out miles of string to touch the clouds. A kite flies strictly because of aerodynamic lift acting against the anchor of the string. Eventually, the sheer weight of the incredibly long string and the aerodynamic drag of the wind bowing it backward perfectly equalizes with the lifting force of the kite. Once this mathematical limit is hit, your kite will absolutely refuse to climb an inch higher.
