The blizzard that trapped children at school
In 1888, the US plains experienced an unusually warm winter day. Kids went to school without coats. Out of nowhere, a massive arctic front dropped temperatures by 30 degrees in minutes, creating whiteout conditions. 'The Schoolhouse Blizzard' trapped thousands of kids in one-room schools, forcing teachers to tie children to ropes just to walk them home safely.
