A closer look

Pigs are biologically incapable of sweating because they possess very few functional sweat glands on their bodies. To cool down and regulate their core temperature, they must rely on behavioral thermoregulation, which typically involves wallowing in cool mud or water to achieve evaporative cooling. The phrase sweating like a pig is therefore a complete biological paradox invented by humans who clearly never took the time to study porcine anatomy. The mud also serves the dual purpose of acting as a natural sunscreen and protecting their pale skin from biting insects. So the next time you see a pig rolling around in absolute filth, remember it is not being inherently gross, it is just trying to survive the heat because evolution forgot to install an internal cooling system, forcing it to embrace a life of perpetual dirtiness
