Long before anyone feared a highly intelligent android uprising, the very first industrial robot, Unimate, was just awkwardly moving hot metal parts in a General Motors plant. It weighed two tons, was controlled by a magnetic drum, and did the exact same tedious motion all day long. The true robot revolution started not with lasers, but with aggressive factory boredom.
