Benjamin Franklin grew tired of swapping spectacles

One of history's most prominent inventors completely revolutionized eyewear simply out of sheer annoyance. In the 1780s, Franklin became overwhelmingly frustrated with having to constantly switch between his distance glasses and his reading glasses. He aggressively chopped the lenses in half and jammed them into a single frame, inventing the bifocal just to save himself five seconds of effort.
