When she died suddenly at age 42, her will revealed she had left the massive, lifelong royalties of her books to Albert Clarke, the nine-year-old son of her neighbor. The boy grew up to inherit millions of dollars just because he casually knew a famous writer who decided to treat her will like a bizarre lottery ticket.
