Winning MTV's Video of the Year apparently requires subjecting yourself to mild physical torture. To achieve the surreal, jittery aesthetic of his iconic 1986 music video, Peter Gabriel was forced to lie completely motionless under a heavy sheet of glass while animators painstakingly manipulated real dead fish, raw meat, and clay around his face frame-by-frame. He had to lip-sync the lyrics in excruciatingly slow motion over the course of a full week, resulting in a masterpiece that remains the most played video in MTV history.
