Why animated food makes real meals look bland

There is a deep cruelty in how incredibly delicious two-dimensional food appears on screen. Animators draw massive, impossibly stretchy pizza cheese and perfectly shiny, massive hams that look infinitely better than any real-world meal, leaving generations of viewers permanently disappointed when they encounter a completely normal, slightly greasy actual hamburger.
