Water Turns a Simple Throw Into a Risky Command
Pikmin are not interchangeable little workers: each type handles some hazards better than others. Blue Pikmin can move through water, but a Pikmin without that ability begins to struggle when it lands there. Throwing one across a pond or onto a submerged route can therefore turn a useful shortcut into an emergency.
The danger is not always instant. A struggling Pikmin may be called back with the whistle before it drowns, giving the player a chance to react. But if the player is busy directing a squad elsewhere—or simply fails to notice—the stranded Pikmin can be lost.
Why the Game Makes You Throw Them
Throwing is a basic way to send Pikmin to a target, and it gives the player precise control over where each one goes. That precision comes with responsibility: a throw can put a Pikmin on a high ledge, into a hazard, or straight into water. The danger follows from the same command that makes organizing a group effective.
This makes water more than an obstacle on the map. It tests whether the player has matched the right Pikmin to the job and is watching what happens after a command. A careless throw can expose an elemental weakness immediately—and a quick whistle can be the difference between a close call and a lost teammate.
