Why Aztecs offered children's tears to the rain god

Tlaloc, the fearsome rain god, was apparently a huge fan of misery. The Aztecs believed that offering the tears of young children was the only guaranteed way to end a drought. The more the kids wept before a sacrifice, the more abundant the incoming rain would be, turning absolute tragedy into a horrifying meteorological strategy.
