A closer look
Anthology films are usually a disjointed mess, but Federico Fellini turned this 1968 Edgar Allan Poe tribute into his personal firing squad. While Roger Vadim and Louis Malle submitted basic gothic snoozefests, Fellini took the reins on Toby Dammit and completely ignored the source material. Instead, he crafted a blistering, neon-drenched takedown of vapid actors, Ferrari-driving narcissists, and the utterly soulless nature of the film industry itself.
