The Beetle used its spare tire to wash the windshield
Instead of wasting precious money on an electric fluid pump, Volkswagen engineers decided to weaponize the air in your spare tire. The classic Beetle routed a hose from the pressurized spare tire directly to the wiper fluid reservoir. If you washed your windshield too aggressively on a muddy day, you inadvertently deflated your only backup tire. It was a perfect blend of German efficiency and self-sabotage.
