HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Before the invention of synthetic rubber, fixing a writing mistake required raiding the pantry. Draftsmen used moist, wadded-up pieces of white bread to gently rub away graphite marks from paper. It worked surprisingly well, but it was highly susceptible to rotting and randomly attracting hungry rodents to your workspace.
