Humans hold the absurd distinction of being the only mammals on the entire planet that willingly delay sleep when they are completely exhausted. every other creature in the animal kingdom simply shuts down and rests the moment their biological battery gets low, prioritizing basic survival over absolutely everything else. meanwhile, humans will feel their eyelids drooping, experience severe cognitive lag, and still decide to watch just one more episode of a mediocre true crime documentary at two in the morning. our highly evolved prefrontal cortex gave us the magnificent ability to build civilization, split the atom, and actively choose to torture our own nervous systems by ignoring the most fundamental biological urge just so we can avoid facing the responsibilities of the next waking day
