How Egyptians preserved bodies with desert salt

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

The secret to surviving eternity is extreme desiccation. Embalmers stuffed hollowed-out bodies with natron, a naturally occurring compound of baking soda and salt collected from dry lake beds. The corpse was left to marinate in this dry rub for 40 days, essentially turning powerful pharaohs into divine human jerky.
