Why sailors once feared bananas

For centuries, boat captains have actively refused to transport this specific yellow fruit, convinced it brings absolute doom. Historically, boats carrying them frequently sunk, entirely because the fruit releases a gas that spoils other produce and ferments rapidly. Instead of blaming terrible refrigeration, sailors just decided bananas were inherently demonic.
