Massive Egyptian statue was carved from a single stone block
Building an enormous monument usually involves carefully stacking smaller pieces over decades. The builders of the Great Sphinx looked at a massive, incredibly inconvenient outcrop of pure limestone sitting in the desert and decided to just completely hack away at it until a giant statue emerged. It is a completely ridiculous flex of sculptural endurance, entirely removing rock instead of adding it.
