Earth's molten lava volcanoes are incredibly dramatic, but Saturn’s tiny moon Enceladus puts them to absolute shame using freezing water. Deep beneath its icy crust lies a global subsurface ocean kept warm by the gravitational friction of Saturn pulling on the moon. This intense pressure shoots liquid water, methane, and complex organics out through massive surface cracks at a staggering 800 miles per hour. As soon as it hits the vacuum of space, it flash-freezes, creating cryovolcanic plumes so gigantic they actively feed one of Saturn's outermost rings. It’s a spectacular reminder that geology doesn't require fire to be violent.
