Signing treaties relies on ink quietly climbing down a piece of metal through microscopic channels. Rather than violently rolling out, fluid is drawn through a thinly split metal nib via intermolecular attraction. The narrow slit creates strong surface tension, allowing the wet ink to adhere perfectly to the metal until it is gently dragged off by the rough texture of the paper.
