The line between unparalleled scientific genius and absolute madness is terrifyingly thin. While trying to understand how the human eye perceives light, Newton casually slid a bodkin (a blunt needle) between his eye and the surrounding bone, pressing it until he saw colored rings. He casually documented this grotesque self-mutilation in his journal like it was a completely normal Tuesday afternoon.
