Why sweatbands can leave your neck soaked

Those thick terrycloth headbands popularized in the eighties were fundamentally flawed at a mechanical level. Once the dense fabric reached its maximum fluid absorption capacity, it simply became a saturated sponge. The excess liquid predictably bypassed the barrier anyway, dramatically streaming down the back of the neck instead.
