The deadly salt flowers that grow from sea ice

Nature occasionally gets bored of normal snowflakes and decides to grow jagged, hyper-saline ice lotuses directly out of the freezing ocean. When the atmosphere is much colder than young sea ice, moisture wicks up from the surface and freezes into intricate, flower-like structures. These frost flowers are beautiful, but they pack highly concentrated salt and bacteria, basically making them toxic winter weeds.
