Topology aggressively insists that perfection is impossible. The 'hairy ball theorem' states that you cannot comb fibers flat against a continuous sphere without creating at least one tuft or cowlick where the vectors cancel out to zero. It is fundamentally impossible to achieve smooth uniformity on a globe.
