A closer look

Because analog sticks rarely return to absolute zero perfectly, the software has to forcefully ignore minor inputs. A deadzone is a tiny programmed radius right in the center of the stick where movement is completely disregarded. Without this digital buffer, merely bumping the controller would cause your highly trained virtual sniper to violently stare directly into the floor while slowly spinning in a continuous, agonizing circle.
