Bootleg concert recordings began with unauthorized fans

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

The entire subculture of live music trading exists because some people simply refused to stop bringing bulky tape recorders into venues. In the late 1960s, passionate fans began sneaking reel-to-reel and cassette recorders into shows to capture unreleased jams and extended solos. These unauthorized recordings were pressed into unofficial vinyls, birthing a massive underground economy of 'bootleg' concert audio.
