During the Great Depression, record sales absolutely plummeted, nearly destroying the recording industry. However, the end of Prohibition meant a massive surge in newly legalized bars, all of which desperately needed cheap entertainment. Jukebox operators bought millions of records, single-handedly saving the entire musical economy.
