How bobsleds stop after reaching top speed

After successfully surviving a chaotic sprint down a frozen maze, somebody eventually has to stop the bullet. The brakeman, sitting miserably at the very back of the cramped sled, is responsible for yanking a giant metal lever past the finish line. This plunges heavy metal teeth aggressively into the ice, creating a violent shower of snow and stopping the heavy sled before it hits a wall.
