Londoners ignored this terrible advice, bought platform tickets, and moved in anyway. Eventually relenting, the authorities instituted Operation Pied Piper, transforming the deep-level Tube stations into sprawling subterranean dormitories. The transport system doubled as a bunker city complete with bunk beds, medical posts, and designated bathroom trains. Because nothing says 'keep calm and carry on' like sleeping on a concrete platform while hoping the tunnel ceiling holds.
