Slate forcefully splits into perfectly flat rigid sheets

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Thanks to millions of years of deeply aggressive underground compression, slate developed an incredibly useful flaw. It naturally fractures along utterly perfect, completely flat planes, making it delightfully easy to just casually split apart. Geology essentially pre-sliced an entire mountain into extremely durable, heavy-duty roofing tiles just waiting to be harvested.
