Tommy Wiseau spent six million dollars of his own mysterious fortune to produce, direct, and star in the 2003 film The Room, inadvertently creating what is widely considered the Citizen Kane of terrible movies. He bought film equipment instead of renting it, insisted on shooting in both digital and 35mm formats simultaneously for no logical reason, and notoriously refused to provide his crew with air conditioning or basic human drinking water. The resulting film is a mesmerizing catastrophe of unresolved subplots, randomly framed spoons, and dialogue so bizarre it sounds like it was written by an alien pretending to understand human emotion. Despite being a colossal failure upon release, it morphed into a lucrative cult classic with worldwide midnight screenings, proving that absolute, uncompromising incompetence can occasionally horseshoe its way back into becoming genuine, highly profitable entertainment
