When the Portuguese governor refused to offer Queen Nzinga a chair during 1622 peace negotiations, she wasn't about to stand like a peasant. She signaled a servant to drop to all fours and comfortably sat on his back for the entire meeting, proving to the colonialists exactly who held the real power in the room.
