Trapping intense radiation is easy, but letting it out safely requires one of the most toxic metals on earth. X-ray machines generate beams that would normally be blocked by standard glass. Beryllium, possessing an extremely low atomic number, is practically invisible to x-rays, allowing the deadly beam to pass cleanly through to image your broken bones.
