Matte boxes shield camera lenses from direct flares
Unwanted beams of sunlight can violently wash out the contrast of an incredibly expensive cinematic composition. To prevent this, massive, highly adjustable black flaps are securely bolted to the front of the camera rig. It essentially gives the highly complex optical instrument a giant, aggressive visor to block out the very light it relies on to function.
