Giant telescopes observe space using heavily curved mirrors

HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART

Looking deep into the cosmos requires less glass-crafting and more aggressive metal-bending. Giant glass lenses would sag under their own weight and distort the image. Instead, observatories use massively wide, deeply curved mirrors placed at the back of the tube to catch incoming light and forcefully bounce it into a sharp focal point for the observer.
