A closer look
British Army officer John 'Mad Jack' Churchill voluntarily fought throughout the entirety of the Second World War armed with a traditional Scottish broadsword, a longbow, and a set of bagpipes. He firmly believed that any officer going into battle without his sword was improperly dressed, and he actually managed to capture forty-two German soldiers and a mortar squad using only his medieval weaponry and absolute unhinged confidence. When the United States dropped the atomic bombs to end the war, Churchill was reportedly furious, complaining that if it were not for the Americans, they could have kept the war going for another ten years. The man essentially treated the most devastating global conflict in human history like a massive live-action roleplaying game where he refused to break character
